Frimpong the Travelling Bear

Well, I know Owlina's idea of travelling around the world isn't that original. There are many other adventurous plushies and figures around the world. So I started googling them.
This is the first one I've found: Frimpong the Travelling Bear. Amazing pictures! I hope Owlina will get to see as many places as Frimpong has seen!

's-Hertogenbosch, the Netherlands

Today I went shopping in Den Bosch, so I thought I'd take Owlina on her first adventure!
In the back you see the trainstation of Den Bosch, with some late mardi gras decorations (the red, white, yellow ribbon things).

It was quite a rainy day, so Owlina was the most colourful thing in the city by far. Here you see her in front of the St. Jan Cathedral. Normally it's a very beautiful building, unfortunately it was all covered in scaffolding because of the restoration that's going on.

In the H&M shop-window we even found some close relatives!

I'll take Owlina on another adventure in my hometown soon, and then she'll travel to a close friend who lives a little more up in the north of the Netherlands :). Exciting!

Conditions

Owlina and I are looking for some nice people who'd like take Owlina on a little adventure with them. Interested? This is what you should consider:

  1. When you get Owlina, you should take her on a little adventure. This doesn't have to be a big fancy trip, I think it would be a lot of fun if you could take Owlina shopping, to your school, or perhaps you could just let Owlina check out the sights in your hometown. Special trips would of course be superb!
  2. On this adventure you'll have to take some nice and sharp pictures of Owlina and what she's doing/seeing. I'd like you to send these pictures to me so I can put them on this weblog. It would be nice if you could also add a little discription. Of course you can also put the adventures Owlina had with you on your own weblog :).
  3. I count on you for taking care of Owlina. She doesn't necesarrily need food or a bed. But please don't get her dirty, break her, or even worse, lose her.
  4. You must be willing to send Owlina to her next home. Owlina weights 17 grams and fits in a regular envelope, so the postage costs will be very low. Even though, there is a chance that you have to send Owlina to onother country, so keep that in mind.
  5. Please don't keep Owlina with you for too long. It would be nice if her journal (this weblog) could be updated regularly.

Still in? Great! Please send an email to owlinathetravellingowl@gmail.com. Mention your adress. I will give only give this to the person before you, so he or she can send Owlina to you.

Owlina's story

On a day like many others, I was crocheting an amigurumi owl. I used my favourite yarn and embellishments and I was wholly absorbed in my crafting. I named her Owlina.
When she was finished she looked at me with her big, bright eyes, and said:'Hello. Thank you for making me. What shall we do now?' 'Erm,' I replied. 'I just thought I'd put you on a shelf, among the other amigurumis I made.' Her eyes glanced upon the shelf, then she said: 'They seem like jolly creatures. But...' She pointed out of the window. 'I'd rather see what's outside there!

I want to meet people and see flowers and famous buildings. I want to go to concerts and musea and stuff. I'd like to feel the rain falling down on my pink little head, feel the wind rushing through my feathers and catch the sun in my big eyes. I don't want to be put on a shelf, I want adventure!' I was quite astonished. I didn't know where she got all that from, but owls are wise creatures they say. 'Okay...' I replied. 'But you see, I'm just an ordinary crocheter, I'm not very adventurous. But maybe...'
I suddenly got a great idea and explained it all to her. Perhaps I could put up a website, and ask some friends if they would be willing to take her on a little adventure. The only 'but' was that she had to travel in an envelope. Luckily she didn't mind, because she's very tiny and owls like living in the dark sometimes. So, Owlina and I had made a deal. Now all we had to do is to wait for some nice friends who'd like to have owlina over for a while!
